Stop and smell the Roses

I stopped to smell the roses as friends had so advised DSC_0971-20100425_1004-(2)

it would be so beneficial to my psycho logic side

forget the destination said they and I agreed

enjoy the journey daily and you’ll find you are relieved

of all the cares and worries that may encumber you

stop and smell the roses

and you’ll know these things are true

so with all my gumptions wrangled

I plunged right into them

friends I got to tell ya

you better watch them stems

What did they smell like, J?

  2. ··¤ SETH says:

Even the rose, beautiful and enticing, is not without its flaws. Ouch!!! Sure… it\’s great advice to stop and smell the roses… as long as one is carrying a small medical kit! Bwahahahaha! Cause obviously, even the most beautiful things can hurt you.Wonderfully written.

  3. J says:

@Rocket, man the pollen buggers are so totally impacted in my nose all I could do was try.

  4. ROCKET says:

Yeah, I know what you mean. Everything around here smells the same but I gots me a pot of jambalaya workin\’ and it\’ll either clear out my nasal passages or cauterize \’em when I left the lid off that pot!

  5. Beth says:

    LOL!! Loved this one!

  6. john says:

  8. Here I Am says:

Wonderfull….. But todays roses hardly smell at all. They have hybrid the smell right out. When you have whiffed a really old old rose bush you will know how really wonderful and purfumy they can be. For some reasons I have never been a rose person. Thanks for sharing your wonderful words on the subject… Hugs Carrie

  9. J says:

j2Carrie, I\’m just going to have to smell more roses now because I just didn\’t realize that the hybrids had lost so much fragrance when compared to the ole time roses. Here is another post about roses from my archives. Check it out. It explains a lot about my feelings for the rose. http://ihopedaily.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?_c01_BlogPart=blogentry&_c=BlogPart&handle=cns!72C21CDF0296DE8A!1169

  10. Stephen Craig says:

Jay, As you well know there is a special place in my life for the roses that is a small garden in the front yard. As a visual artist and sometimes bad poet have come to grow, nuture, view and write about the roses. To me there is something poetic, magical, and stirring in the beauty of the rose. Carrie is right about most of the hybrids loss of scent and there few aromas as enticing as the wiff of an old time rose in bloom. I have a white rose that is just such a plant and, man o man, do I inhale when it blooms and keep my nose away from the thorns. As ever be well

j2JohnBord, Yea, come on down John! Book your spot now for the first annual j in the garden Bloody nose Rose tour. Definitely for the discerning rosaceae aficionado. Space is limited. Please for your own safety, no hemophilics or those on blood thinners should attend. If the thorns don\’t get you first the extreme huffing to detect any fragrance might. This according to the latest report from Carrie. In which case the thorns win anyway should you pass out in the bush. Join me for an extreme rose sniffing event that you will remember for a lifetime.

  12. J says:

j2Stephen, I\’ve seen your roses and they are beautiful. Roses take alot of work. My best luck has been with the knockout varieties. They are extremely low maintenance when compared to other roses I have failed with! They do have some fragrance but I must confess I should get my nose into a ole timey rose for a comparison. I am on the hunt!

How in the world did I miss this? Spaces tells me NOTHING any more..I have to hope I happen on an update when it happens any more. Anyway, loved the pic and the prose.

  18. Horst says:

I do love Roses but I find that they take to much work for me at this time. My Mother and Father used to grow some Roses and so did I for many years, now I don\’t have the room.

  19. J says:

j2Horst, I agree! If you see pretty roses in W Georgia someone has worked their butt off. We\’ve been using a variety called Knockout roses for few years down here that are pretty easy to grow. I have had no luck with other roses and as you say they take too much time.

    LOL!!
